Sources add that the AT&T iPhone supports Microsoft Exchange servers, adding that Apple has likely licensed Microsoft’s ActiveSync to accomplish that integration.
When asked about corporate email in a USA Today interview, Apple CEO Steve Jobs replied, “You’ll be hearing more about this in the coming weeks. We have some pilots going with companies with names you’ll recognize. This won’t be a big issue.”
Much commentary and speculation has surrounded the topic of the iPhone being a viable smart phone for businesses or whether the device will dominate only the consumer ranks.

Wireless carrier AT&T said Wednesday it plans to limit iPhone sales at its retail stores to ‘one per person’ on Friday — the first day the eagerly sought Apple handset is due to go on sale nationwide.
“With AT&T iPhone arriving June 29th at 6 p.m. in AT&T retail stores, the wait is almost over. Use our online store locator to find the closest AT&T store that sells Apple iPhone (limit one per person),” the company wrote in an email to subscribers. “We’ll show you maps, directions, and everything you need to get your hands on an iPhone as quickly as possible.”
Apple retail stores are also expected to limit the number of iPhones its shopper can purchase on the first day, though it has not said how many that will be. Obviously, both AT&T and Apple are in the business of improving their bottom lines, and will ease the limitation over time.
For its part, Apple will also be making iPhone available for purchase from its online store, where it’s unlikely to impose limits.
A copy of the AT&T email follows:

- Web, Email is superior
- Battery Life Test: 5 hours video, 23 hours audio. Note: did not turn off Wi-Fi and other features as Apple suggests.
- Typing was OK. Difficult at first, but learned to “trust” the keyboard. “The BlackBerry won’t be going away anytime soon.”

- AT&T’s EDGE cellular network: “excruciatingly slow”
- Slideshow of photos taken with iPhone
- Video Review
Newsweek: Steven Levy
- bottom line is that the iPhone is a significant leap
- The iPhone is the rare convergence device where things actually converge.
- e-mail looks more like you’re working on a computer than a clunky phone
- YouTube videos work great on Wi-Fi, but can display in a lower quality when you’re not at a hotspot and are using AT&T’s EDGE network
- unless I did a lot of video watching or Web browsing, [the battery] could generally last the day
- I’ve been jamming it in my pocket with keyrings, coins and pens, and so far it’s nearly as good as new.
USA Today: Edward Baig
- Apple’s iPhone isn’t perfect, but it’s worthy of the hype
- The revelation is that it’s also comfortable to hold and touch.
- I expected to miss the tactile feel that a physical keyboard provides. I didn’t.
- You can hold a conference call with up to five people.
- No voice recognition or voice dialing
- halfway decent internal speakers for listening if you set the thing down
- iPod games are not compatible with iPhone
- our company tech department raised questions about the security settings Apple required with our Microsoft Exchange servers.
- Battery life didn’t prove to be a big problem in my unscientific tests
- Edward Baig brought his iPhone to CNBC and demoed it live tonight: Video
Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg
largest, highest resolution screen of any smart phone they’ve seen, most internal memory
- Impressive battery life and thin
- Feels solid
- Regarding the touch keyboard: “After five days of use, Walt — who did most of the testing for this review — was able to type on it as quickly and accurately as he could on the Palm Treo he has used for years.”
- Can’t use T-Mobile SIM cards
- Wi-Fi capability doesn’t fully make up for the lack of a fast cellular data capability
- Multitouch: “effective, practical and fun”

Two individuals can now flaunt the crown of “the very first iPhone line waiters”, having camped out Monday morning on a Midtown Manhattan sidewalk more than four days before the Apple device is due to go on sale.
At 5:00 a.m. on Monday, the two iPhone enthusiasts stationed themselves outside Apple’s Fifth Avenue flagship shop in New York City’s Manhattan borough, assuring their first and second places in line. Yes — they plan to remain there till Friday evening and are seeking food and MetroCards as donations.
The two were first discovered by local blog site Vicarious Music , which spotted them Monday afternoon holding signs pronouncing their early arrival.
In a later interview with Gizmodo, the head of the line (known thus far only as Greg) explained that he was a single retiree, affording him all the time in the world to ‘get his iPhone.’ Greg’s plan after buying iPhone? To “take a look at it” and “see how it works.” His left-hand man remains unidentified.
Both campers are equipped for the remaining four days of the wait with soft seats, soft drinks, and coolers full of grub — including, as the interview (below) reveals, at least one bright yellow banana.

Apple Inc.’s retail stores plan to offer iPhone shoppers around two dozen accessories for the multi-function handset at or around the time the device goes on sale later this week,
The majority of those products will likely consist of third party cases and protective gear, which are amongst the simplest for outside firms to develop given their limited exposure to the Apple handset thus far.
In addition to those third party iPhone accessories, Apple will offer at least three of its own:
A stereo headset with mic, which will be included with each iPhone, will also sell separately for $29. Meanwhile, the company’s little-mentioned Bluetooth headset will reportedly fetch a whopping $129, making it one of the most expensive on the market. Apple will also sell a white iPhone dock.
Over the past couple of weeks, AT&T retail stores have also turned up periodic shipments of third party iPhone accessories. Again, these products consist primarily of iPhone cases and protective gear.
In particular, two DLO cases — one called Jam Jacket and another called HipCase — where spotted and photographed over the weekend.

One might remember that Steve Jobs took a call on the iPhone during the Keynote. Well there was a unique iPhone ringtone there. A ringtone of heavenly qualities in tone, rhythm, and key that Steve Jobs likely had composed by the eternally restless soul of Beethoven which he summoned with the ritual sacrifice of a Macbook (Beet is a Mac User, even as the Undead). We have it here for you.
Credit goes to an anonymous Gizmodo fan that took the time to extract the ringtone audio from the presentation, clean up the static and the sound of 1,000 fanboys wetting themselves, and send it on in for our loyal and awesome-tastic readers to load onto their plebeian handsets. We’ve got the skins, the papercraft model, and now we’ve got the ringtone. Franken-iPhone, here we come!

I just got off the phone with an AT&T rep confirming information about the launch next week. He explained a few things to me about AT&T’s iphone plans that I didn’t know, and also stated that he expects the plans to be their standard data plans starting at $34.95 and climbing all the way up to $99.99 a month.
AT&T offers what they call a “smart phone plan” for internet useage…but it doesn’t actually work with most of what we would consider “smart phones”. For example, you can’t use it with a Palm Treo or a Blackjack. The “smart phone” plan is $19.95 a month, and only works with phones that have limited access to the Internet. PDA-like phones have to go the Data Plan route.
The iPhone Data Plans include:
PDA Personal 20 Mb for $34.95 a month
Personal Max w/ 1500 Messages for $44.95 a month
PDA Personal Max with 1500 Messages w/UNLIMITED M2M Messaging for $49.95 a month
Data Connect (Unlimited) for $79.95 a month
Data Connect (Unlimited) w/ Wi-Fi for $99.95 a month
You can read about the Date Plans on AT&Ts official site.
Now AT&T Reps have already gone on the record as saying the plans for the iPhone will be “nothing exotic”, so I think the dreams of heavily discounted data plans for iPhone customers are just that…dreams.
Regardless of how well the device works, or how revolutionary it may or may not be (and I tend to fall on the “may” side of that argument), the rates that AT&T charge, and whether or not the phone will have Wi-Fi access without a data plan are two factors that are going to make or break this phone.
From everything we’ve seen of the iPhone so far, the device looks like a home run, but AT&T’s role in this, cost wise, has yet to really be revealed. If the information I got today is correct, and these standard rates are going to apply…do you still want an iPhone?
If the Wi-Fi is inactive without an AT&T Data plan (which has been rumored, but not confirmed) do you still want an iPhone?

Here’s a never-before-seen section of the iPhone : the settings. Which makes sense, because what kind of lame commercial will say “wow, look at all the cool settings the iPhone has!”Here’s what else is new:
• Confirmed in-line viewer for PDFs, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel docs in email. Microsoft complained about lack of support before.w This is a huge deal, even if it is read-only.
• Turning off the phone requires you to slide your finger across the top (like unlocking it) to confirm.
• You can rewind voicemail like a sound file.
• You can finger-scroll through contacts using the alphabet on the right.
• The special iPhone headphones have volume and call control.
• IMAP/POP support confirmed
• Typing with two thumbs actually looks manageable
• Limited amount of ringtones can be selected from the settings menu. Doesn’t look like songs can be used.
• Confirmed turn by turn directions and up-to-date traffic info for Google maps.

It appears that Apple iPhone displays are going up at Apple Stores. TUAW notes that a “large, covered rectangular display” appeared at the 5th Avenue Apple Store tonight.
They’ve also posted a small gallery of images of the shrouded display. Apple Store employees were reportedly unable to give out any further information.
We’d heard rumors that Apple Stores would be getting more promotional displays this Friday, and there had been hopes (though unconfirmed) that iPhone rate plans details would also be announced at that time.
