iPhone hacking has continued in the absence of the Apple SDK, and a new innovation on that front seems to occur every day. This time it’s from Kevin Brosius, who has figured out how to use port Apple’s coverflow interface in other iphone applications , giving even more control to unofficial iPhone developers.
He writes:
“You can display a number of images (look at the setImage: calls.) At the moment this just displays four fixed images supplied with the demo.”
Following his discovery, Layton Duncan posted one example app (direct download) that scans the app directory and loads them into coverflow. It requires a jailbreak (obviously) and SSH capabilities to implement.

Apparently in China they have gotten fed up with waiting around on Apple to finally release the iPhone to them. After the iPhones leave the Chinese factory and get shipped off smugglers are snagging them and bringing them right back to China.
The smugglers are getting paid $30 per iPhone delivered. This is being done by Chinese tourists as well as flight attendants. Once there to add and unlock the Chinese language software costs the buyer about $25.
The handsets themselves range from $400-$600. Which happens to be the same or cheaper than the official 8GB iPhone in Europe.

These are step by step instructions how to jailbreak and unlock almost any iPhone instantly! No downgrading then upgrading! You can do the unlock from 1.1.2 or 1.1.3. It will also jailbreak and activate as well as install Installer.app for you!
ZiPhone performs all these functions:
- Unlock will work on 4.6 BL or 3.9 BL
- Jailbreak will work on any OS version.
- Activation will work on any OS version, except for youtube on 1.0.X.
- iErase BL 3.9 Baseband
UPDATE*: It seems the Apple logo problem can be resolved by using verbose mode. I have updated the tutorial…
Step One
Download ZiPhone from: here
Step Two
Double click ZiPhone.zip on your desktop to extract the folder ZiPhone.

Step Three
From the extracted ZiPhone folder double click ziphoneGUI.exe to launch the application.
Step Four
You must put your iPhone into recovery mode. To do this please hold down both the Sleep/Wake for 3 seconds. A power slider will appear. Slide it to the right to power down the iPhone. Then keeping ONLY the Home button pressed, connect the iPhone to the dock. Keep the home button pressed until you see the iTunes logo and cable on the screen.
Step Five
If you have a 4.6 BL iPhone you can now activate, jailbreak, unlock, and verbose! Just simply check the Activate, Jailbreak, Unlock, and Verbose checkboxes. Then click the Start button.
Step Six
The program will now load zibri.dat. Then it will search for the iPhone. Once found it will tell you to wait for 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Step Eight
After this time your iPhone will reboot and it will be activated, jailbroken, and unlocked!!!!

NOTE*: After completion its probably a good idea to install BSD Subsystem first then OpenSSH from Installer.app
NOTE*: If you are in an unsupported country YOU MUST patch AppSupport after unlocking or your dialer will keep crashing as will your SMS:

Fission - http://www.rogueamoeba.com/fission/index.php
MakeiPhoneRingtone - http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
iTunes - http://www.apple.com/itunes
Please note that Fission is not freeware, but it is the greatest loose-less audio editor that I have ever used, so I really recommend purchasing it from these guys. You might use any other audio editors to trim your MP3 or AAC file such as Audacity which I’m not really familiar with.
1. First fire up Fission and open the .mp3 or .aac file that you would like to edit.
2. On the top part of the window click right below the sound graph until you get a yellow triangle this is going to be your starting point so drag this triangle over to where you want your ringtone to start.
3. Drag the other triangle to where you want your ringtone to end (Max. 40secs)
4. Click on crop and go ahead and click on File/ Save As. Save the file to your desktop.
5a. If you have an mp3 file skip to step 6
5b. If the file is an .aac file you are ready to open up MakeiPhoneRingtone and drag the edited file to that window to have it added to your iTunes Ringtones Library. You are done
6. If you have an MP3 file drag it over to your iTunes library, click on View/ View Options and Select “Kind” Click “OK”
7. Search for the file that you just added to the library it might be easier to sort by time and look for the 30-40 seconds file. Right Click the file and select Convert Selection to AAC. File is going to convert and you are going to have two files with the same name. (One MP3 and one AAC)
8. If you like you can delete the MP3 from your iTunes library. Drag the AAC file from your iTunes library onto your desktop to make a copy of it. You can now get rid of the AAC file on your iTunes library since we have a copy on the desktop.
9. Open up MakeiPhoneRingtone and drag the AAC file that we drug out of the iTunes library window into the MakeiPhoneRingtone and the ringtone is going to come up on your Ringtones Library. You are done..
Please comment if you find an easier way of doing this. This is the method I currently use to make my own ringtones without having to buy iToner.

AT&T announced a new unlimited voice plan for wireless customers. Priced at $100 per month, the new plan will be available February 22nd and can be used by iPhone customers. However, iPhone customers will still be required to have AT&T’s $20 data plan in conjunction with the unlimited voice package. We’ve confirmed with AT&T that no contract extension is required to use the new plan.
Upgrading to the unlimited plan, according to AT&T, requires “visiting company-owned retail stores and kiosks, at www.att.com, or at one of the thousands of authorized AT&T retail locations.”
As confirmed in-house, however, you can also call AT&T’s customer service line (800-331-0500) right now and ask to be called on February 22nd for an immediate upgrade.
Meanwhile, Phonemag.com reports that the option “will show up in iTunes shortly.” We assume this refers to customers establishing new lines of service with iPhones, though an iTunes-based upgrade option would certainly be welcome.

Web site iWebSaver saves entire web pages to your iPhone or iPod touch by converting the entire page to a data URL, then providing that data link as a bookmark you can save to your bookmarks or your home screen. That means next time you’re about to jump on a plane or hit the tunnel on the train, you can use iWebSaver to save some reading material directly to your device before you lose your signal. One would think you could do this just by loading the web pages in beforehand, but Safari often reloads pages inactive, so that’s not a foolproof method. iWebSaver ensures you’ve got some reading material saved directly to your device. Be sure to bookmark the iWebSaver bookmarklet to save any site on-the-fly.

One problem that many iPhone users have noticed after the recent 1.1.3 firmware / software upgrade is poor signal, low and/or continuously fluctuating signal strength no matter where you might be positioning your iPhone - resulting in poor reception and calls being unexpectedly dropped. It seems that this does not apply to a large majority of 1.1.3 firmware / software iPhone users, but certainly a significant number enough to raise awareness of its problem, the problem itself is also not limited to 1.1.3 firmware users on non-jailbroken iPhones but also those with iPhones that have been jailbroken via whatever method available.
Hopefully the following tips may be worth trying in order to help restore your iPhone’s proper signal, at least near where it should be. We certainly don’t understand why it is behaving the way it is, but the signs of the problem are mainly:
Try the following tips
Lastly if all else fails, bring it back to your local CarphonesWarehouse or Apple store (we’ve not tried this yet to be honest!).

Got 2.2GB of storage free on your iPhone (or iPod Touch) and fancy carrying around a wealth of knowledge to impress ladies, ace the pub quiz and generally come across as a Smart-Alec? Then you’ll be wanting to follow Patrick Collinson’s instructions to put the entire English version of Wikipedia (minus extraneous links, unnecessary pictures and other rubbish) onto your cellphone and never again be subject to the whims of a languorous EDGE connection when you’re desperate for another factoid.
According to Patrick the app still has plenty of rough edges - some articles won’t work, and it’s prone to occasional crashes - but if you’ve the space and the inclination this might just be the hack for you. The German Wikipedia version is also available, and there’s a Google Group if you’re looking for support.
