textReader is a new, fairly basic eBook reader app for the iPhone. It allows you to read large text files or text file formatted ebooks, as well as Palm doc (.pdb) files.
This is a ‘low frills’ sort of app that is not (in this version anyway) going to win your heart with slick features - but if you need an app that will load large text files quickly, and serve as a basic but perfectly usable ebook reader, then this may be a good choice.
textReader’s options and features are quite a bit more basic than Books (the first native iPhone ebook reader program). For instance, to move through pages while reading, you cannot flick to scroll up or down through the book. You need to tap once anywhere in the top half of a page to go back a page, or tap anywhere in the bottom half of a page to move to the next page - or use tap and hold to bring up a slider that I find a little over-sensitive and awkward to work with.
The program has just a small number of options to set - things like selecting the font and font size you’d like to use, and an ability to invert the text if you prefer reading on a black background. It does remember where you left off in a book when you exit and come back into the program.
You need to manually add your text and .pdb books to the /var/mobile/Media/textReader folder in order for the app to be able to open them.
You’ll find textReader on Installer now, via the BigBoss source, which is:

An article printed in a Chinese news paper, The Commercial Times, is saying that the manufacturer Foxconn, Hon Hai Precision Industry, has landed the contract to manufacture the new iPhone. Foxconn was also the manufacturer of the original iPhone, so it is not too far fetched of an idea. The article says that the new iPhone should ship around June. We all knew that already though, didn’t we?
The Chinese Times article claims that their sources have been instructed by Apple to begin preparing to manufacture the new iPhone. The article says that the sources were told they need to “begin preparing material supplies by the end of May.” It also claims that the new iPhone should sell over three million units by the end of June.
That seems to be pretty generous estimate for just one month of sales. Potentially even less than a month depending on when in June it starts shipping, if at all. This is not the only number they are estimating. The article says that the new model would ship about 25 million units during it’s life span. It very well could; after all, 3G opens up a much broader market than it’s 3G-challenged first generation brother.

Over at UNEASYsilence that have quick tutorial on hacking your iPhone to support two different numbers by using two SIM cards. Basically this involves using a dual SIM card holder and manually trimming down the cards to fit into the adapter. With one kind of adapter the active SIM card automatically switches each time you turn the phone off and back on. If you have to AT&T SIM cards you don’t have to do anything else to get two number support.
On the other hand, if you want to use non-AT&T SIM cards you’ll want a different adapter and then you’ll need to jailbreak, unlock and activate your phone with ziPhone. The neat thing about this method, however, is that Apple has apparently built dual SIM support into the iPhone OS. So once that’s done you’ll be able to switch between the SIM cards in the Phone submenu of the Settings.
As Dan notes this is not for the faint of heart since it involves actually cutting the SIM cards and the hacking the iPhone with ziPhone. Nonetheless, if you want to use your iPhone with two different numbers and you aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty, head over to UNEASYsilence for the step by step.

Although it is beyond obvious at this point, it is still nice to have some confirmation that the next iPhone will be 3G. Today 9to5Mac has it. Looking in the latest iPhone SDK Preferences application, we find references to both EDGE and 3G Networking.
…which compares to EDGE code found further along in the file.

The default view when the iPhone keyboard pops up on your screen shows a QWERTY keyboard, a shift key, a space bar, a delete key, a return key, and a button at the bottom-left that sends you off to find more symbols to type. All these buttons, yet there are no dedicated ones for accents. However, typing accents is quite possible. To add an accent to a letter, hold your finger over any key that permits accents and wait about one second. The button expands and a menu pops up above it with keys for any possible accents! Now just drag your finger to the accent you are looking for and let go, and the accented letter will appear.
To insert accents over capital letters, do the exact same thing except press the shift key before entering the accented letter.
Furthermore, This feature does not only apply to letters, but also to some symbols. In the “.?123″ symbols and numbers view, exclamation points and question marks can be flipped upside down by using this trick.
Inserting accented characters is a really well thought-out feature of the iPhone keyboard and should actually be expanded. For example, Apple could add “sub-keys” to the number keys on the numbers and symbols page of the keyboard that correspond to the symbols inserted when one holds shift and presses on them on a standard QWERTY keyboard on their computer.
Although this would be less useful on an iPod Touch which does not have the iPhone’s SMS capabilities, I assume it is available on iPod Touches as well. If anyone could confirm this in the comments, that would be great!

Apple raised $378 million through iPhone, iPhone accessory sales and payments from carriers, the company revealed during last night’s financial call.
CFO Peter Oppenheimer revealed the scale of payments from carriers during his preamble last night. He admitted to 1.7 million iPhone sales in the March quarter, and also revealed total deferred revenue from iPhone and Apple TV was $1.93 billion at the end of the March quarter, compared to $1.44 billion at the end of the December quarter.
“Because we announced the specific new features to be included in the iPhone 2.0 release and plan to provide them to iPhone customers as a free upgrade in late June, we will delay the start of revenue recognition for all iPhones sold on or after our March 6th announcement date until the iPhone 2.0 software is delivered,” Oppenheimer added.
The revenue and cost of sales associated with these iPhones will be recognized over the remaining terms of their respective 24-month estimated lives, he added.

There are a number of solutions for streaming media (music, movies, etc.) to the iPhone and iPod touch, including a native application and several Web-based offerings. They all offer replicas of the standard mobile OS X iTunes interface, most making use of simple sliding-style navigation schemes. A new update to one of the Web-based tools, Remote Buddy, delivers the best implementation of iTunes streaming we’ve seen thus far.One of the killer new features we haven’t seen in other tools is the ability to playback complete playlists and albums automatically, and the new interface is beautiful.
Setting Remote Buddy up is fairly easy:

Jake Marsh sent along this neat screencast of an iPhone web app for MySpace that he’s working on. Facebook basically seems to be the gold standard of social networking web apps these days, and this looks basically just like that one. It is cool that you can look up people right away, but the real improvements are on MySpace’s Music pages — not only can you subscribe directly from the profile, but he’s also got it working to play all the music there (usually trapped in Flash, though there is a less easy way around it already). He also says that it might eventually be possible, for songs that are available for download, to get them with one click into the iPhone’s iPod library.
Yes, it looks just like Facebook (in fact, it looks like a rip of the mobile site), but why fix something that’s not broken? Unfortunately, Marsh is just showing off — he says that it’s just for him right now and he’s aiming for an open beta in August. He should probably aim for a little sooner than that: after June, we might all be saying “what web apps?”

Adding 3G on the iPhone may just be the ticket to make the Apple device a genuine hit in Europe. But here’s another rumor that suggests Apple would do more than just add 3G on iPhone 2.0. Whether the QWERTY iPhone is just one model of an entire line of iPhones Apple has been rumored to be preparing we’re nevertheless astounded that Apple may finally succumb to the tactile temptation.
Some sources say that Apple have already tasked suppliers to produce 200,000 of the new iPhones by the end of May and by June Apple will have 2 million 3G iPhones ready to ship. Personally, I think making a QWERTY is very slim because this defeats the purpose of touchscreen keyboard.
