Looks like those Ambrosia Guys have made a break-through. This video shows their iToner utility working with the iPhone 1.1.1 firmware. iToner, as you may already know, allows you to install third-party iPhone ringtones. So you can either use your personal audio collection or record your Mom saying “Pick up the phone!”
The 111-compatible update to iToner is still in beta but as this video shows, it should be arriving soon.

Joe over at dev-blog released a GUI based iPhone application called “Ringtonator” which edits the metadata to “convert” AAC music files to ringtones in iTunes.
Everyone seems to getting creative when it comes to naming their iPhone applications related to adding custom ringtones to iPhone; we have seen RingToneMaker (Windows only), iToner (Mac only), iRing and now we have the “Ringtonator”.
Ringtonator is a simple drag and drop application that will turn any AAC file into an ringtone in iTunes so it can be synced back to your iPhone and vice versa.
The hack used AtomicParsley to edit the metadata of the AAC file; with Ringtonator you do not need a separate install of AtomicParsley.
Ringtonator can also handle multiple files thus making the whole process of converting your favorite songs in iTunes music library as iphone ringtones that much more easier and faster. All one needs to do is drag the AAC file into the drag and drop area as can be seen in the screenshot below and the file should appear in your ringtone list in iTunes, and after syncing, it should show up on your iPhone.
Ringtonator is currently only available for Mac and you can download it from this link. Joe promises that he will also be publishing the source code soon and also add a feature of converting an mp3 file to AAC format as currently Ringtonator can only work with AAC files.
So folks enjoy it before Apple releases an update for iTunes which will fix this bug and don’t forget to let me know how it work for you in the comments.

RogueAmoeba has posted a small Mac application that allows you to copy unprotected AAC files into your iTunes 7.4.1 Ringtones folder. This allows iTunes to sync these ringtones with your iPhone.
The free application appears to simply automate the step-by-step free iTunes Ringtone workaround that has been previously posted.
The application works as advertised and seems to work better than Applegazette’s iRing which was an Applescript accomplishing the same task.
This solution, of course, may very well break in the next version of iTunes and only supports unprotected AAC files.

Today, I’m very happy to introduce Apple Gazette’s very first piece of software. A very simple Automator built application based on this tutorial for converting AAC files into free iPhone ringtones.
The application is free to download. You are using it at your own risk. Please read the Read Me file before using the application. iTunes MUST BE closed for it to work. If iTunes is open, it will not add the file to the Ringtones tab on your iPhone.
If you have any problems with it, let me know in the comments below, and I’ll try to fix them. I’ve tried this on both an Intel and PPC Mac, running Tiger, and it works just fine.
Enjoy.
OK - Let’s give iRing2 a shot. This is still an Automator workflow. It works just fine for me, but I haven’t been able to test it on another machine yet. It takes the AAC file, turns it into an m4r file, lets you move it to your iTunes Ringtone folder, then converts it back to an m4a file after its there.
I’ve successfully uploaded 2 rintones to my iPhone using it. If you don’t have a Ringtones folder in your iTunes Music folder you will need to create it for iRing to run the script properly.
Let me know how it works for you.
If you’re still using iTunes 7.4 you can download the original iRing here.
Click Here to download iRing 2.

Apple just announced the ability to make custom iphone ringtones in iTunes 7.4 only days ago. Unfortunately you have to pay for the ability to use your own music as a ringtone. You already paid for the music, why should you pay for it again? If you’re thinking along these same lines, read on. If you don’t mind paying for something twice then move along, there’s nothing for you here.
Apparently all that separates a song from a ringtone is the extension which it is given. So as you can imagine, the only thing you need to do is copy the song(s) you wish to convert to ringtones and change the extension from .AAC to .M4R. Double-click your newly created and renamed file and the free iphone ringtones will be imported into iTunes.
Now comes the hard part. Sync your iPhone. That’s it, you’re done. Boy that has to be one of the hardest hacks I’ve ever heard of. Just don’t tell anyone I let you in on the secret.

We guessed Apple will soon be entering the iphone ringtone business, but I think it deserves a post all by itself. iTunes will shortly be updated, and one of the new features will be the ability to create 30 second ringtones from any of 1 million ‘ringtone ready’ songs from the iTunes Store (the available ringtone songs are marked with a little bell.
Click on a ringtone ready song in iTunes, use the new ringtone editor to create a 30 second clip of the song (including setting the duration of the gap during the loop), and your ringtone is ready. Ready for you to buy it that is. $.99 is what it will cost you to get that ringtone, which is in addition to the cost of the full track (though if you already own the track you can just buy the ringtone).

I’ve been trolling the internet looking for another iphone application that lets you access your entire iTunes library from your iPhone, but there’s nothing.

DOT.TUNES is the ONLY application that gives you the ability to stream music (iphone ringtones ), videos (iphone videos) and movies directly from your iPhone.
The whole team has been rocking DOT.TUNES on their iPhones and we’re spreading the word.
I’m not trying to brag, but DOT.TUNES is the truth. Its the sexiest application out for the iPhone right now, and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise.
But don’t take my word for it, download the application, get the iPhone plug-in and try it out for yourself.

Funstastic v3.03 is here and the good news for those who have PowerPCs is that the latest version of the iPhone unlocking now supports PowerPC. The other great enhancement is that the file browser will not only let you gain access to iPhone’s file system it will also allows you to install the latest native iPhone application. Read on for more details.
bitSplit, after about 3 weeks of silence has just released v3.03 of iFuntastic and if v2.5 was great with the addition of the iPhone file browser, the latest version is even better.
One of the most important new features in v3 is “Unshackling”. No longer will you have to un-jail and re-jail your iPhone for every modifiaction. Once you unshackle, you’re free to make any modifications you please while simultaneously maintaining iTunes’ ability to access the phone. Very sweet.
The Home Screen section has been significantly updated. Just as you could in previous versions, iFuntastic allows you to rearrange the icons on your home screen, but it gets even cooler. You can now have multiple home screens with a different set of icons on each. Take that, Spaces. On top of that, you know have the ability to put iphone backgrounds on each home screen as well as rotate them. Can you say “useful”?
Ringtones has also been updated. Remember that handy tip on getting free iphone ringtones from iTunes? Now you can use iFuntastic to rip iTunes previews for you. Simply create a playlist of songs from the iTunes Music Storeand drag the exported version into iFuntastic. The songs are downloaded from the store and uploaded right into your iPhone.
The new File Manager is awfully cool. It can be used to install new iphone software, save and delete files, and everything in between. iFuntastic also allows you to fiddle with system images and change the carrier logo, as you could in the past.
According to bitSplit, (summarized) changes since the last version are:
* PowerPC support! Finally. Thanks for keeping the faith ![]()
* One-time unjailing - called ‘Unshackling’.
* Drag and drop any file onto the phone in the new ‘File Manager’ (formerly Browser ![]()
* Edit text directly on the phone.
* Drag and drop installation of native applications - no restart of the phone necessary.
* Info page: a one-stop-shop for all documentation (still sparsely populated right now, sorry.)
* Troubleshooting page: a one-stop-shop for pummeling the phone and inquiring about its status.
* Much improved ringtone installation.
* Drag and drop replacement of system sounds.
* Completely reworked Home Screen Editor. Place applications anywhere you want them (gaps are OK.)
* Support for multiple home screen ‘pages’. Have up to 80 applications at your fingertips!
* Custom home screen ‘wallpaper’, better called home screen backgrounds, to distinguish from the ‘real’ wallpaper.

Classically it has been hard for Windows users to modify their iPhones. Mac users get all the cool applications like iFuntastic and such.

No more of that! iBrickr is the Windows application that makes it dead simple to modify your iPhone, add and manage custom iPhone ringtones, and install third-party iPhone applications.
To get a feel for how simple it is, check out this video from Gear Live’s Bleeding Edge:
Current iBrickr version: 0.6 Download
New in 0.5 is custom sound management (make custom lock/unlock sounds, keyboard sound, etc) and file management.
The interface is designed to read like an interactive tutorial - just download the Zip file, extract it somewhere, and run ibrickr.exe (I’ll have an installer soon). Plug in your iPhone and iBrickr will guide you straight through the steps of modifying your iPhone. Once that’s done (takes about 10 minutes), you can manage ringtones and applications to your heart’s content.
If you want to download applications on the go, you can use Nullriver’s Installer (PXL package). Just download the PXL to your computer, then install it from the Applications view in iBrickr.
If you have any issues, hit the Send Error Report link at the bottom-right of the application. The link will bring up a form where you can review the data being sent, and put in an e-mail address that I can reply to. It’s that easy.
iBrickr uses the PXL package format for iPhone applications - check the iBrickr PXL Repository for the latest app releases.
