What goodies does Apple have in store for us this time around? Quite a few, we’d say! Follow the break for more!

1: We deleted installer.app on ours and kicked off the update, things are taking a while but no obvious problems yet. Stay tuned.

2: Success! The phone’s restarting now.

3: WiFi Music Store, check. New calculator icon to match the iPod touch, check. Phone had to be reactivated.

    From Engadget

AnySIM 1.0.2 Released (gets even better and easier to install)

     anysim

The iPhone Dev team have release new version of free GUI based iPhone SIM unlock tool anySIM 1.0.2 in which they have fixed lots of bugs and also optimized the unlock process further. However, the best part of this update is that you can now install it on your iPhone using the cool Installer.app. So if you are one of those who tried unlocking iphone byusing anySIM 1.0.1 and faced problems then you can check the latest version of the unlock tool.Follows are the detail steps.

    • Download the iUnlock_Reloaded.zip from here, here or here. Save it to a directory.
    • cd to where you just saved the download and unzip it.
    • in another wiindow, ssh into your iPhone and run: mkdir /unlock
    • back on your Mac, scp the three files to your iPhone: scp -p iUnlock_reloaded *bin root@youriphoneip:/unlock
    • on your iPhone, run: cd /unlock
    • on your iPhone, run: ./iUnlock_reloaded
    • If it worked, and says your iPhone is unlocked, you’re done. If not, read on.

If it says that the flash went ok, but the unlock failed, do this:

    • put a copy of the 1.0.2 firmware in a directory on your Mac. If you need to download it, get it from here.
    • rename the extension on the firmware from ipsw to zip
    • unzip it
    • run: dd if=009-7698-4.dmg of=ramdisk.dmg bs=512 skip=4 conv=sync
    • use finder to navigate to the directory where ramdisk.dmg is and double-click it to mount it.
    • copy the following files to the directory you unziped iUnlock_Reloaded.zip in:
      • /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/local/bin/bbupdater
      • /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/local/standalone/firmware/ICE03.14.08_G.eep
      • /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/local/standalone/firmware/ICE03.14.08_G.fls
    • copy those three files to your iPhone: scp -p bbupdater ICE* root@youriphoneip:/unlock
    • on your iPhone, run: cd /unlock
    • on your iPhone, run: launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
    • on your iPhone, run: ./bbupdater -f *.fls -e *.eep
    • on your iPhone, run: launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
    • on your iPhone, run: ./iUnlock_reloadedIt should successfully flash and unlock this time.

The Missing Sync syncs your iPhone with other smartphones

When I saw that Mark/Space was planning to release a version of Missing Sync for iPhone my first reaction was: what for? But as it happens I think they’ve hit upon some needed features that are actually missing from the out-of-the-box iPhone experience. First is a Migration Assistant for moving contacts, calendar entries, and photos from a Palm, Windows Mobile, or Blackberry device onto your Mac and thence to the iPhone. It also syncs your SMS messages and call log to your Mac so you don’t lose information when you hit the storage limits on the iPhone. Best of all, perhaps, is Notes syncing, which will allow you to view iPhone notes in Yojimbo, Entourage, or Mark/Space’s Notebook application. Unfortunately, however, it appears that it’s only one-way, from the iPhone to the Mac, and not vice versa. This lack two-way Notes syncing remains a puzzling lacuna as far as I’m concerned, and I’m looking forward to somebody, whether it be Apple or Mark/Space, filling this obvious hole in the iPhone feature set.

    missing sync for iphone

Missing Sync for iPhone won’t be available until the 4th quarter and will sell for Mark/Space’s normal price of $39.95, but crossgrades will be offered from other Missing Sync products. This is quite a useful software for iphone.

    Schiller on unlocked iPhones

The Associated Press managed to talk to Phil Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, about Apple’s recent announcement that hacked or unlocked iPhones might become expensive paperweights after an upcoming software update is applied to them. (The AP also quoted our very own Erica Sadun on the topic.)

Phil says that this isn’t about punishing people for unlocking their iPhones, but rather that the various iPhone unlocking apps have ‘caused damage to the iPhone software and that Apple can’t be help responsible for what happens to a hacked iPhone.

I’m willing to believe that Apple isn’t maliciously trying to brick iPhones that have been unlocked. It is far more probable that the update might, under certain circumstances, break your hacked iPhone and Apple doesn’t want to spend the time fixing the update to play nice, and they don’t want to have to pay for all the broken iPhones that may result.

Export Apple iPhone’s SMS and Calls History to Your Mac

Enthusiasts have developed very useful iphone software called MobileSyncBrowser which allows to get access to iPhone’s SMS archives, to Notes and even Call History through saved backups which iTunes player makes during each synchronisation process. One more pleasant feature of this amazing application is its ability to export data to a file. MobileSyncBrowser is the only one application, which is capable to do such things as data export.MobileSyncBrowser

    Download MobileSyncBrowser from HERE.

    Operating System Requirements:
    * Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
    * Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
    * Mac OS X 10.3.9
    * Mac OS X 10.3

Edit, Format and Share Word Documents using your iPhone with Glide Mobile

If you are one of those who is not happy with the option of only being able to view Microsoft Word documents with your iPhone and would like to edit them as well then its your lucky day. Glide has just released the Glide Write 2.0 iPhone version which brings powerful mobile document creation and collaboration features to your iPhone.

    iphone glide mobile

Software startup Transmedia announced yesterday (13th September, 2007) that Glide Mobile, the online file sharing and transcoding service, that it now enables Apple iPhoneusers to view, edit, format and share MS Word documents.

Glide Mobile provides transcoding capabilities, so the version of the file you look at it optimized for the iPhone’s viewing capabilities and networking speed depending on whether you are using AT&T’s Edge Network or Wi-Fi.

Glide Write will let you open and edit multiple Word docs and includes formatting features like bold, italic, underline, bullets, 40 symbols, and even includes HTML source editing and preview modes. You can automatically sync and convert Word documents for access on the your iPhone and also export documents created on your iPhone to Word, PDF and RTF.

The other cool feature of Globe Mobile is that it allows you to collaborate the documents with others from your iPhone thanks to non-destructive rights-based collaborative document editing. You can control the number of document views and downloads allowed and set limits on file uploads by other users, as well as control the time period that documents can be accessed by other users and add password protection. You can also alter or revoke access rights to documents at any time.

Donald Leka, Chairman and CEO of Transmedia had this to say about their exciting new offering for iPhone users “Glide provides the convenience and security of access to all of your most important documents and other digital files on your iPhone, so now you can work in Glide on your iPhone in one hand while you enjoy a cup of Starbucks coffee in the other hand.”

Transmedia is offering Glide Mobile free of charge; which gets you 2 GBs of online storage; however if you are looking for more storage then you need to pay $5.00 a month or $49.95 a year which gives you an additional 10 GBs of storage for a total of 12GBs of storage.

In case you are wondering why would you need to 12GB for Word documents; in addition to documents Glide also provides automated online synchronization of your music, video, photos, contact, calendars and bookmarks for Windows, Mac and Linux PCs for anytime, anywhere access on all of your devices. I will try to cover those features soon in another article.

Other than Apple’s iPhone, Globe Mobile also supports more than 50 smart phones like several RIM Blackberry, Palm Treo, Samsung and Nokia devices. With Globe Mobile, Transmedia seem to have a killer mobile application in their portfolio.

Check out Globe Mobile by pointing your iPhone’s Safari browser to http://www.GlideMobile.com and as always share your experience with the latest iPhone software in the comments below.

    MakeiPhoneRingtone Application for Mac

RogueAmoeba has posted a small Mac application that allows you to copy unprotected AAC files into your iTunes 7.4.1 Ringtones folder. This allows iTunes to sync these ringtones with your iPhone.

The free application appears to simply automate the step-by-step free iTunes Ringtone workaround that has been previously posted.

The application works as advertised and seems to work better than Applegazette’s iRing which was an Applescript accomplishing the same task.

This solution, of course, may very well break in the next version of iTunes and only supports unprotected AAC files.

iUnlock - First free open source iPhone SIM unlocking software released

It looks like the battle’s officially over between iPhoneSIMfree and the numerous unique groups of open source hackers trying to software SIM unlock the iPhone. As we’ve been following in our previous post on the topic, earlier this afternoon iUnlock, the first free, open source iPhone SIM unlock app, was released to the underground just 74 days after the iPhone’s release. Developed by the iPhone Dev Team, it’s not (yet) for the faint of heart and it takes a little longer to do its magic than iPhoneSIMfree’s method, but it works.

    iphone Software

To pull this off you’ll need iUnlock + nor + the .fls file, which is available in ZIPs all over. We’ve got the app here, but this package doesn’t include all of the files necessary. Good list of links here, or try here, here, here, here, and here.

For the how-to, just hit up one of those guides down below. Naturally, we offer zero guarantees that any of this will work. (Read: don’t whine to us if your iPhone gets bricked.) Big ups to the iphone.unlock crew, Draken, and, of course, the iPhone Dev Team. Let us know in comments if this free iphone unlock way works for you.

Update: We’ve confirmed the hack! Yes, it’s fully restore-resistant, too, which is great news. We’ll get you all the juicy proof in a few, but we have indeed managed to software unlock an iPhone with iUnlock. Also, HaRRo says the app should be out “very soon” to make this easier on the noobs.

Update 2: Depending on activation method, YouTube might not be working after the unlock — ours isn’t. This is, of course, expected behavior. There’s a Windows script here that should hopefully fix you up (again, we don’t make any guarantees), but Mac users will have to look elsewhere. Also, alongside the Mac GUI iUnlock app in the works, the iPhone Dev Team is prepping a Windows version, a simple bash script and an iPhone app — and eventually an all-in-one app that can do everything from the Jailbreak to the unlock.

Update 3: We’ve posted our terminal output from using the hack after the break. Go ahead. Nerd out. Also, the graphical version isn’t out quiet yet, but we’ve got the first image of it above. Check it out.

Update 5: Ok, the graphical unlock app still isn’t yet out, but we’ve tested an early build, and it definitely works! Check it out here.

Access your entire iTunes library remotely with your iPhone + DOT.TUNES

I’ve been trolling the internet looking for another iphone application that lets you access your entire iTunes library from your iPhone, but there’s nothing.

    dottunes
DOT.TUNES is the ONLY application that gives you the ability to stream music (iphone ringtones ), videos (iphone videos) and movies directly from your iPhone.

The whole team has been rocking DOT.TUNES on their iPhones and we’re spreading the word.

I’m not trying to brag, but DOT.TUNES is the truth. Its the sexiest application out for the iPhone right now, and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise.

But don’t take my word for it, download the application, get the iPhone plug-in and try it out for yourself.

    Find out more at http://www.dottunes.net
