iPhone owners may soon find themselves scrambling to find an open window- not a power outlet- to charge their cell phones in the future. Apple has filed a patent for a surprising new technology- the implementation of solar cells underneath the iPhone’s touchscreen. In the past, photovoltaic cells have been bulky and ugly, and required a direct line of sight with their source of energy. However, this new technology would benefit from the glass shield on the iPhone, as well as its fairly large screen size. If Apple manages to pull this one off- and we sure hope they do- the iPhone will truly become the world’s most potable device.
