With iPhone firmware v1.1.1 jailbroken and a tool for fixing bricked iPhones in place, and the ball is in Apple’s court, and they’ve taken their first swing back at iPhone modification. The first sync of iTunes 7.5 with a jailbroken iPhone will remove the customized ringtones. Luckily, for those who experience this problem, there is a solution.
According to Michael Simmons, Director of Marketing for Ambrosia, there have been problems with the new iTunes removing custom ringtones placed on the iPhone with iToner. He says “Just a heads up, iTunes 7.5 just came out, and it removes all of your custom ringtones when you connect your iPhone for the first time. If you resync again with iToner, then everything is fine (even subsequent syncs with iTunes is fine, it’s just the initial connect of your iPhone that blows out the custom ringtones for some reason).”
