A 16GB iPod Nano Isn’t Far Away

Filed under: apple ipod — admin @ May 24th, 2007

Currently at Future Shop, 8GB iPod Nanos are sold just under 300 dollarsand it’s almost guaranteed that the price ( like always ) won’t be changing much until the next Boxing Day Sale. After all, memory capacities change with Apple, not prices. The only thing we can hope for right now is that Apple will launch the next release of a new 16GB Nano.

Why should we speculate a 16GB Nano?

The cost to manufacture USB 2.0 sticks with bigger storage is dropping - fast. 2GB USB 2.0 thumb drives sold under 40 dollars is becoming increasingly common. But although the cost to make USB drives is decreasing, the same thing will not be happening with iPods. Generally speaking, consumers use prices to determine the quality of products, and Apple wants them to keep doing that - even though its products is really not significantly any better.

Will a 16GB Nano be useful?

Only if you are a diehard MP3 user, you’ll be one of those people lining up to get one in the rain. But if you’re a regular user who can’t even jam enough music to fill up all the storage space on a 8GB, then 16GB won’t be helping you much.
