An App called SIP-VOIP is a VOIP software available on jailbroken iPod Touches and the iPhone. Unlike other VOIP applications it has been confirmed to work on both of Apple’s Devices.

Their plan was to make a VOIP compatible with the iPod Touch to bring an iPhone like experience to users without access to the iPhone. Check it out and tell us what you think in the comments.

If you thought your iPod touch was expensive, then you might be in for a surprise when you learn about this gold-plated touch. David Beckham of soccer (or football as it is known in the rest of the world) fame received a golden iPod touch from his teammates after participating in his 100th national club appearance. Engadget is reporting that this iPod touch is worth over 600 English pounds (or $1,188 US dollars). Of course they didn’t skimp on the iPod itself, as you can see it is the 32 GB model.

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPod touch using iLiberty+ and Windows.

Before following these instructions you should have already restored your iPod touch to 1.1.4 using iTunes. You should have the iPod connected to your dock/computer and iTunes should have detected the iPod after restore at least one once!

Step One
Download iLiberty+ 1.2 from here, or here to your desktop.

Step Two
Double click the downloaded file (iLibertySetup_1.2.0.65.exe) on your desktop to launch the install program.

Step Three
Click the Next button to begin installation.

Step Five Enter a name for the iLiberty+ Start Menu Folder and click the Nextbutton.

Step Six

Step Seven
Finally, click the Install button.

s-7.png

Step Eight
Once installation is complete you will be given the option to launch iLiberty+. Check the box next to Launch iLiberty+ then click the Finish button.

s-8.png

Step Nine
iLiberty+ will open onto the standard tab. Check the operations you would like to perform. If you are jailbreaking an iPod touch then you only have to have Jailbreak selected.

s-9.png

Step Ten
Click to select the Payloads tab. From here you can select additional payloads to install while jailbreaking. We will leave this alone for now and go back to the Standard tab. Note***: A tutorial on how to download and install payloads will be posted in the near future.

s-10.png

Step Eleven
Click the Go for it! button from the Standard Tab to begin.

s-11.png

Next I got a message that asked me to disconnect then reconnect my iPod touch and click the OK button.

s-12.png

Step Twelve
You will then notice a status bar appear. Unfortunately, mine only displayed until around 13% when the iPod rebooted into recovery mode and then it disappeared. No worries though, the jailbreak procedure continued and finished successfully. I was not notified that it did by the software. Just watch your iPod until it comes to rest at the \”Slide to unlock\” screen.

A confluence of what-ifs: Envisioning a WiMax version of the iPod Touch with Skype.

(Credit: CNET)If you want an iPhone in the U.S., you’ve got two choices: use AT&T’s wireless service, or risk unlocking your phone to use T-Mobile (the only other American provider that’s compatible with the iPhone’s SIM-based GSM design). And with AT&T’s exclusivity contract in effect until 2012, we’ll be well into the next presidential election cycle before that changes. But maybe there’s a loophole in the form of the iPod Touch–and its eventual successor.

While it looks almost identical, the iPod Touch is missing a few key iPhone features. But let’s envision a second-gen Touch that changes that–call it the iPod Max. The Max would use nearly the exact same housing as the iPhone, including the built-in speaker, microphone, Bluetooth, and camera missing from the Touch. (And since we’re fantasizing here, I’ll go ahead and make sure the Max uses a flush headphone jack, not that annoying recessed version found on the iPhone.) But here’s the key: in addition to Wi-Fi, the iPod Max would have a WiMax module in place of the cellular radio found on the iPhone. And that’s where things could get interesting.

WiMax is the fledgling 4G high-speed wireless service that’s due to be rolled out by Sprint later this year. The details are still thin, but the WiMax service–sold under the “Xohm” brand–is said to be available on a much more flexible basis than cellular service. So instead of a dreaded two-year contract, you’ll pay for service on a more a la carte basis–by the hour, by the day, or by the month, presumably on a flat fee all-you-can-eat data plan.

So Apple sells its iPod Max ($499 for 64GB, $399 for 32GB) as a standalone touch-screen iPod that can also double as a wireless data device. But unlike the current Wi-Fi-only iPod Touch, the user can also use the Max to connect to the Sprint/Xohm WiMax network, when and where it’s available. That would provide access to any and all Internet-connected apps, even when outside the range of a Wi-Fi hotspot.

But why stop at e-mail, instant messaging, Web browsing, and Google Maps? Throw a Skype application on the iPod Max, and the possibilities really expand. If the free Skype-to-Skype calling isn’t enough for you, just pay up for Skype’s various upgrades–the ability to call landlines and cell phones anywhere in the world, a standard phone number so you can receive calls, voice mail, and even SMS text messaging. Granted, you’d be paying two bills–the WiMax service fee plus the Skype charges–but I’d be willing to bet that even that combined rate would be less than what some people are currently paying for a cell phone bill that includes a good data plan. Meanwhile, Apple gets to sell another “iPhone” that works outside of AT&T’s network–but because Skype telephony is technically a “data” service, Apple’s not violating the letter of its exclusivity contract with the wireless carrier.

Now, let’s refresh a key point in case you’re just skimming this: I’m making all of this up. There is no such thing as an iPod Max, there’s no announced plans for an WiMax-enabled iPod, and there’s not even a Skype application available on the iPhone/iPod Touch platform, and even if one were to appear, the apparent inability of third-party applications to run in the background (multitask) seems to be a huge stumbling block. And even if all of that were to be resolved, there are still a lot of variables, not the least of which is Sprint’s WiMax network: it hasn’t yet been launched, and until it is, its pricing, coverage, and reliability remains completely theoretical. (Though it looks as if we’ll be getting details sooner rather than later.)

By the same token, however, none of this is completely outside the realm of possibility, either.

So what do you think? Would you like to see a Skype-friendly version of the iPod Touch? Or are you and your iPhone happily married to AT&T until 2012?

The people at FlyTunes.fm sent me an email asking me to review their application for the iPhone/iPod touch. This was a pretty exciting email for me to get because it means that people are visiting Public Radar, and reading our articles. I quickly went to FlyTunes and did a review on the product — just in time for our weekly Apple Tuesday special.

Setting up FlyTunes is super easy. They sent me a registration link, I clicked it and typed in my email address, password, sex and zip code. That is all there is to it. They sent me a conformational email with information on how to log into FlyTunes.

What exactly is FlyTunes you ask? Well it is a free version of satellite radio that works on your iPod touch and iPhone. This is great for people who use satellite radio, but do not want to pay the monthly fee.

I couldn’t get the actual audio to play on the iPod touch — maybe that was because of the poor internet connection. However, it seems that the FlyTunes Application is best for people who own the iPhone — as they will always have an internet connection. The iPod touch is only connected to the internet when near a wireless router.

The idea of FlyTunes.fm sounds very promising — but it is more of an iPhone application than a Ipod Touch Application. One thing that they are working on to improve iPod touch functionality is that they will eventually allow you to record radio-casts and play them back at a later time.

Apple does it again with a hot new commercial!

via http://teamsugar.com/user/geeksugar/videos/1080412

If you don’t have a Kensington Mouse remote but still want to groove around your place without running to your computer every four minutes (because you want to hear that Kanye song again), use your iPhone (or iPod Touch) as a remote control! All you need is WiFi, and the download Signal (the demo is free and all you need to do is this). Then, have iTunes open on your computer.

First, put one hand in the air. Wave it around like you just do not care. With the other hand, point your iPhone browser to the address the demo download gives you — after the first time you go to it, add the web app as an icon to your iPhone home screen or just bookmark it.

From Signal you can browse your entire iTunes library and it will even display the album art on your iPhone or Touch. Party on, geeks!

A new iPod Touch commercial aired during American Idol on fox last night. It is the second ad of the device, which is more than all of the other iPods have had. This is said to be because it is not just an iPod but a portable WiFi Device.

The ad shows many iPod Touches on a table showcasing all the many features they have. The main purpose of the ad is to show the new apps that were ported form the iPhone to the iPod Touch last month.

You can watch the ad here in Quicktime or here on YouTube. Be sure to state in the comments what you think about the ad.
